The Pantry lost an integral member of our staff on Thursday. It is with great sorrow we must report that our beloved Berry Queen Pam Gentile passed away unexpectedly. Pam came to volunteer at the pantry several years ago. She was known in the area as the school nurse before she retired.
Pam dedicated herself to helping us at the pantry in so many ways, as the “Berry Queen” we nicknamed her for taking on checking of all berries and fruit that came in the door to insure it was good enough to put on your table. She organized our stockroom, ensuring all food was kept and labeled according to strict USDA guidelines. She was our shopper, her daughter Georgia (Gigi) and Pam would head out and go from one store to the next buying food items we needed sometimes hitting four different grocery stores to get the best buy. Parking cars at the Antique shows to help raise money for the pantry. Working long hours and coming in on Holidays to help with preparing food for pickup and delivery.
The hole her passing has left, is immense, and she knew we loved her. Though unseen, unheard, we know she will be nearby. She was more than a coworker, more than a friend, she was family to us and so missed and so very dear.
